Borstar® is Borealis’ state-of-the-art multimodal patented technology for the production of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). Global growth driven by Borstar’s polyethylene and polypropylene capacity and capacity expansion is a key element of Borealis’ strategy. Significant growth projects include Borouge, a joint venture with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in the United Arab Emirates, and Bayport Polymers LLC (Baystar™), a 50/50 joint venture owned by TotalEnergies and Borealis in North America. Following the successful commissioning of the Borouge 3 project in 2016, the Ruwais site is now the largest integrated polyolefin production facility in the world, with a production capacity of 4.5 million tonnes and growth on the horizon. Baystar includes a 625,000 MTPA Borstar polyethylene plant at its Pasadena, Texas site and a 1 million MTPA steam cracker in Port Arthur, Texas. The new cracker processes ethane and will supply feedstock to the existing 400,000 tpa polyethylene plant, as well as the new plant in Pasadena.
