Blackjack is one of the most popular card games in online casinos. This is because the game is easy to learn and in addition to an interesting chance of winning, the game is also a lot of fun. Over the years, countless Blackjack variants have developed. In a casino, Blackjack is played either against a dealer or against the house. Each player receives cards that have a certain value. Cards from 2 to 10 have the same card value as printed on them. For example, a nine of hearts has the value of nine points. The colour of the game has no influence on the value.
Face cards, on the other hand, count ten each, regardless of whether they are a jack, queen or king. A special feature is the ace, because it can aim for either one or eleven, depending on which card combination the player has. For example, if the player has a nine and an ace, then the ace counts as eleven, so the total value is 20. Conversely, an ace counts as one if a player has only a three and receives another card from the dealer.
Aim of the game
The aim of blackjack is to reach a card value of 21, but not to exceed this value. If the value is exceeded, the player has overbought and is “bust”. We will explain this with an example:
The player receives cards with values of 8 and 10 from the casino and thus holds 18 in his hand. The dealer, on the other hand, has a 9 and an eight and thus a total of 16 points. In our example, the player has a higher value than the dealer and therefore wins the game. Thus, the goal in blackjack is to get pretty much the total value of 21 without exceeding it. Up to eight different packs of cards can be used in blackjack – the fewer the decks, the greater the player’s chance of winning. Conversely, many decks mean that the player has only a slight advantage over the dealer. By the way, not all casinos offer blackjack with only one or two decks.
Possible winnings and stakes
In order to be dealt a card, the Blackjack player must first place a bet. In Blackjack, if the player wins, the winning hand is paid out 1:1. This means that if the player bets ten euros and wins the hand, he or she will be paid €20. This sum is made up of a ten euro stake and a ten euro win. However, if the player manages to achieve a Blackjack hand (a card with a value of ten and an ace), then the payout is even 3:2. Whoever has a winning Blackjack hand is out of the game and the player is paid out immediately. However, there is one exception: if the dealer’s first open card was a card with a value of ten or an ace, then the dealer also has Blackjack and the game is considered a tie, the so-called “push”. In this case, the stakes are paid out again.
The different table limits
The table stakes vary in the casinos and there are some online casinos that offer tables with stakes starting at one euro. Maximum stakes are also set, which are usually between €50 and €50,000. Depending on the variant, up to six players can play at once at most tables. The game always starts from left to right and when all players have received their cards, in blackjack the dealer is only the last to take his turn.
