Is it a good thing to have big hotels and casinos in midtown Manhattan? Not too long ago you might have thought for nanoseconds before saying yes, but now I’m not so sure.
If you know me and have read my opinion before, you know that I shamelessly support some things in life.
Of course, the success of my two children.
University of Michigan football and basketball.
yankee baseball.
Dating Elizabeth Hurley is great, but it can be done.
And my favorite New York.
I am spoiled. I grew up in New York. I went to college at Fordham University in the Bronx, I took the D train from Yankee Stadium and Manhattan. Great attractions, historic sites, world-class museums, world-class restaurants, major sports, Broadway, world-class entertainers, and the 24-hour White Castle restaurant – I’ve wanted nothing in my life. You’re not alive until you get home from the bar at 3am and eat half a dozen burgers (we call them killer burgers).
In my opinion, nothing can replace New York as the best city in the world. That’s why Caesars is hesitant to support this plan to build a hotel and casino in the theater district.
I’m sure this was not the usual reaction to the drop in tourism due to the pandemic. Such a project was released on Thursday by Caesars and developer SL Green. But New York now has more serious problems than the introduction of hotel casinos.
I’m not going to get into a political debate here, but the fact is that crime is rampant. This is true for most major cities, but things get even more serious in New York. From petty crime and trouble to daring heists and heists, New York City needs to get its own house in order before it can open a massive backyard casino.
And really, tell me, what do Vegas-style casinos bring to the table that New York doesn’t already have? Frankly, all I can think of is that Las Vegas has monopolized the musician residency market. Various artists have emerged in Las Vegas over time. In New York City, Billy Joel has a monthly residency at Madison Square Garden.
On the contrary? Like I said, I don’t need anything in New York.
Luxury hotel? Check.
Broadway show? brother please
Luxury restaurant? New York City has more Michelin 5-star restaurants than any other city in the United States.
play? Well, it depends on how you define the game. Las Vegas has luxury casinos, private poseurs, Pai Gow rooms and roulette games. New York has Three Card Mt.
The point is, what’s the appeal of adding a hotel and casino to New York? it is not a necessity. It’s not even new. Sure, this can add tens of millions to your tax coffers, but what’s the total cost?
No, this is not the time for New York casino hotels. To be honest, the city’s developers have already ruined the view of the New York skyline, with those horrible pencil towers popping up everywhere. Trying to make it not be what it is is quite another.
